AI wrappers, measured: 112 products with real MRR
"AI wrapper" is used as an insult and as a business model at the same time. Our library has 205 AI products; 112 of them publish MRR, the median is $208 and the top decile starts at $10,376. That is lower than the library median of $396 — crowded at the bottom, thin at the top.

The short answer
- AI products report MRR less often than the rest of the library: 112 of 205, against 435 of 851 overall.
- The median is $208, below the library-wide $396. A crowded category pulls the middle down, not up.
- The ceiling is real: 13 AI products clear $10k, and the top decile starts at $10,376. So both stories are true — there is money, and most products do not find it.
What "AI wrapper" means here
A product whose core value is a workflow wrapped around one or more model APIs: your prompt, interface, billing and integrations in front of someone else’s model. We do not treat that as a lesser business — distribution is the hard part, and a wrapper that finds a buyer is doing the hard part.
| Type | Where the value sits | What decides revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow wrapper | The steps and defaults around the model | Niche fit and switching cost |
| Vertical tool | A job in one industry | Buyer budget in that industry |
| Model reseller | Cheaper or unified access | Margin and rate limits |
| Agent product | Autonomy over steps | Trust and output reliability |
All four are filed under one category in our data, so this table is a reading aid, not a measurement.

What this page cannot tell you
- Margin. Revenue is in our fields; model cost, hosting and support are not. A $20k MRR wrapper can be less profitable than a $2k one.
- Retention. We do not collect churn or cohort data, so "does it last" is not answerable here.
- Whether the label applies. Plenty of products use a model and are not wrappers; the category is assigned by the product, not by us.
The useful question
Questions people actually search
What is an AI wrapper?
A product whose core function is a thin layer over one or more model APIs: your prompt, UI, billing and workflow wrapped around someone else’s model. We do not treat it as an insult — it is a distribution strategy, and the revenue below is the outcome.
Do AI wrappers make money?
112 of 205 AI products in our library report MRR, median $208; 13 of them clear $10k. The median is below the library-wide $396 — the category is crowded at the bottom and thin at the top.
AI wrapper examples?
The table above lists AI products from our library with their declared MRR. They are not recommendations; they are the population we can measure.
AI wrapper vs AI agent?
A wrapper exposes a model through a fixed workflow; an agent decides its own steps. In our data both are filed under the same category, so we make no claim about which retains users better.
Method: 851 products in our library that publish revenue through a payment provider, crawled 2026-10-30. 435 of them report a non-zero MRR; medians and percentiles are computed on that subset only. Missing values are never treated as zero. This is the population that chooses to publish revenue — not the whole market.
